The conference will take stock of efforts that have been made across the European Union in upholding and promoting the Rule of Law and will discuss how the EU can continue to promote a culture of the Rule of Law, human rights protection and independent judicial systems. It will bring together policy-makers and representatives of civil society and academia at EU level, representatives of the judiciary, relevant European associations and law professionals.
The debates are divided into different tables, all focusing on relevant issues on the Rule of Law and with an impact on the lives of citizens such as social progress and economic recovery, the role of civil society in promoting the Rule of Law, the COVID-19 pandemic and the Rule of Law or the provision of this concept in the Lisbon Treaty.
The conference features a diverse number of speakers, including the President of the LIBE Committee of the European Parliament and representatives of several European Courts and international and European bar associations, as well as several professors from the University of Coimbra.
