High level Conference on Protecting Vulnerable Adults across Europe – the Way Forward

Following the priorities defined for the Portuguese Presidency of the Council of the European Union, the Ministry of Justice, with the support of the European Commission and the European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights (FRA), will hold on March 30, 2021, in virtual format, a High Level Conference on the theme The Protection of Vulnerable Adults across Europe - the way forward.

The live streaming of the Conference will be available with audio and Portuguese sign language and subtitling (Live Captioning) in English. We very much wanted to have International Sign interpretation for this event to extend its accessibility. However, due to ongoing contractual issues beyond our control, this was unfortunately not possible. We apologise to those affected.

People with disabilities or insufficiencies in their personal capacities and victims of hate crimes or gender-based violence are among those adults who may face particular challenges in exercising their rights, defending their interests and accessing justice in civil and criminal proceedings.

This Conference offers an opportunity to reflect on the current situation and look ahead to what steps are necessary to ensure that all European citizens can enjoy their fundamental rights, including, in practice, equal access to justice.

This event will be attended by several important individuals in the area of Justice and Fundamental Rights. The agenda of the Conference is available online.
