Council of EU Justice Ministers met in Luxembourg
The Deputy Minister of Justice, Mário Belo Morgado, on behalf of the Minister of Justice, attends the meeting of the Council of Justice Ministers of the European Union on 7 October in Luxembourg.

The agenda of the meeting includes a political debate on the issue of pre-trial detention in Europe and its implications regarding the right to freedom and security and mutual trust between the Member States of the European Union in the field of judicial cooperation in criminal matters.
In another item on the agenda, the Slovenian Presidency of the Council of the European Union will bring the issue on the protection of journalists and human rights defenders against abusive litigation to the attention of the Ministers of Justice, in order to assess the need to take steps towards the adoption of EU legislation in this area.
The adoption of the Council Conclusions on the European Union strategy on the rights of the child is another important item on the agenda: this strategy, presented by the European Commission on 24 March 2021, proposes concrete actions to protect, promote and enforce the rights of the child.
On the other hand, the Commission will inform the Ministers of Justice on the progress achieved by the European Public Prosecutor's Office in the first months of its activity.
Finally, the Presidency will present the conclusions of the Conference on the Regulation of Artificial Intelligence, which took place on 20 July 2021, the results of the sixth evaluation of the Code of Conduct against illegal hate speech online and the situation of the Afghan magistrates.
